Thinking of Going Carnivore?
If you are a keto or paleo enthusiast there is a good chance you have heard of the carnivore diet.
Check out my previous blog post: The Carnivore Diet: Is the Zero Carb Diet Really Safe?
Tips for transitioning to a carnivore diet from a keto template:
Get fat adapted first.
Start with a commitment for at least 28 -30 days; I started with a 7 day commitment but found it easy to go beyond the 7 days.
Add a variety of animal products beef, poultry, fish, eggs, pork, bison, lamb, organ meats, grass fed ghee, grass fed butter, bone broth (proceed with caution with eggs and pork; eating sustainably raised).
Avoid dairy products to help heal your gut, balance your hormones and improve the respiratory system; you can add back in after 2 weeks to see how you feel; however it’s best to avoid all together.
Add Himalayan sea salt to foods or Redmond Sea Salt.
Drink plenty of water.
Plan simple meals such as a burger, steak, scrabbled eggs with chicken sausage, pork chops, or meat loaf.
Know this is only a temporary template for a specific purpose (heal gut, improved mental clarity, mood stability, skin issues, autoimmune conditions).
Other non carnivore foods that I added after a couple of weeks included my bullet proof coffee with MCT oil, Primal Kitchen mayo and occasional avocado oil.
Start with 3 meals a day and have some rib eye daily if you can for the first week to help you feel satiated and add grass fed butter to it; you will probably decrease to 2 meals a day but I focused on 3 meal per day.
Don’t worry about counting calories, just make sure you are eating a portion of protein and practice mindful eating.
Include organ meats, the easiest is liver (4-6 ounces per week).
Eat until you are satisfied but not stuffed.
Supplements that are helpful available on our dispensary (under Carnivore Diet Category):
HCL and enzymes
Probiotic
Liver capsules (if not consuming organ meats)
Thyroid support
Minerals
Adaptogenic herbs
If you have stools that float lipase and ox bile can be helpful; ox bile especially if you’ve had your gall bladder removed
