How to Make Bulletproof Coffee - The Skinny Version
The other day I was having breakfast at one of my favorite health food stores and I asked them if they had butter coffee, even though it clearly wasn’t on their menu. “It’s the coffee with grass fed butter and MCT oil," I proceeded to explain to the waitress. She looked at me as if I was some weirdo.
Well, I think if Starbucks would have it on their menu I would definitely order it. I would have them rename it in my honor... “Dr. Linda's Skinny Bulletproof Coffee”. Wishful thinking right?
We can thank Dave Asprey for starting this craze. Or will it be the norm?
I have created my version of the bulletproof coffee. It’s the skinny version. It is definitely not low-fat; however, I have been drinking it for years alongside many of my patients. It tastes awesome, makes you feel energized, more focused, and keeps you full for hours! When you’re not hungry, you don’t overeat. And when you don’t crave sugar, you skip the afternoon and late night snacking, especially the sugary kind and it makes weight loss almost effortless! So what’s not to like about the Skinny Bulletproof Coffee?
Ready for the recipe???
Ingredients for Bulletproof Coffee
At least 1-2 tbsp unsalted grass-fed butter such as Kerry Gold Butter
1-2 tablespoons of MCT oil which is about 1.5 times stronger than coconut oil, with no flavor.
1-2 cups (250-500ml) of hot coffee brewed with low-toxin beans (like Bulletproof Upgraded Coffee) using a metal filter (like French press or gold filter drip).
1 tablespoon organic coconut cream
1 tablespoon of Great Lakes Collagen and/or Gelatin
Cinnamon, vanilla, and stevia to your taste buds
How To Make Skinny Bulletproof Coffee
1. Make Coffee:
Brew coffee as you normally would. I use 2 tablespoons of ground bulletproof coffee and 16-20 ounces of water. I would not use any other coffee (trust me I have tried probably over 100 brands), and it doesn’t taste the same.
2. Pre-heat blender:
Boil extra water and pour it into a blender while your coffee brews to preheat the blender.
3. Froth:
Dump out the hot water from the now pre-heated blender and add the brewed coffee, Kerry Gold Grass Fed Butter, MCT oil, cream, collagen, cinnamon, vanilla, and stevia to taste. Blend until there is a thick layer of foam on top like a latte. The stronger the blender, the better. A spoon won’t work. I use my VitaMix blender.
4. Enjoy!
The Original Bulletproof coffee recipe calls for Bulletproof coffee, Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil and organic pasture raised butter like Kerry Gold. I have tested many types of MCT oils and personally found no difference with the Bulletproof Brain Octane Oil (sorry Dave, just my opinion), which is a brand exclusive for Dave Asprey, so I opt for the Viva Naturals, Left Coast, or Sports Research.
